Bearosaurus: Tonal

We have the second step of the Bearosaurus illustration. I'm painting this piece digitally, and going for a fairly old-school technique, shown to me by the rather impressive Meinart Hansen. Here we see the next stage after my linework: the tonal comp. I decided on a fairly mid-tone burnt umber color to start with, and used the burn tool to apply shadows. I also applied a very rough background, which I'll elaborate on as I begin to paint, but wanted to keep it fairly loose at this point, so as not to overpower my artwork. I'll use this to move into the color phase. I'll also try and create some textured brushes, just to get the hair right. More to come shortly.
